I am a 6th grade teacher at Beacon Heights Elementary. I have also taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade at the elementary level and business and technology classes at East High School.
This is my 14th year of teaching and I have two beliefs: work hard and have fun doing it! To this end I challenge my students to learn and grow every day while I provide a fun and positive environment in which to do it. Student success is important to me.
Academically I have a passion for making difficult and complex concepts simple for students while presenting the curriculum in a fun and engaging way. However, student success is more than just academic success, so a big part of my work as a teacher is to help each student feel important and special, regardless of how they do academically. My hope is that both the academic and emotional well-being of the student flourishes while in my class.
Outside of teaching I love to spend time with my family, cook, take care of my yard, or watch sports and movies. I also love being outdoors: camping, hiking, taking pictures, or my favorite thing-fly fishing! I haven't found a way to interact with nature that is quite like it. It is relaxing, invigorating, peaceful and exciting all at the same time. I am truly addicted and any free time I get you will find me on a river seeking the excitement, solitude, relaxation, and renewal that comes through fly fishing.
